Now that January is around the corner, our makeup bag is in full-on winter mode. We’re nailing the vampy lip (kind of – proof here). We’ve practiced our glitter cut-crease during the holidays. We’ve tried five different shades of merlot nail polish and have mastered the glitter nail.Next on our to-do list: making grey lipstick (FYI: grey is officially a thing) look natural and un-dead.
For the last several years, grey has been trying to make its name as the winter cousin of the classic nude lip.It can be tricky to pull off, but follow the steps below and you’ll stay looking winter-fresh:
Start by lining your lips with a neutral pencil, and fill in the lip completely.
Ease into application by starting with a light layer over the liner and build intensity from there.
Keep the rest of your makeup look neutral – avoid bold blushes and copper eyes, which will compete with the grey.
Highlight the high points of the face (brow bone, cheekbone) to bring life to the look.
Weary of full-on grey to start?Pick a shade with a pink or brown undertone (try Maybelline Gone Greige or Maybelline Touchable Toupe) which will make the grey trend more wearable. Plus, drugstore picks are best to start with to keep more $ in your wallet 😉
Play around!Grey can also transform your other lippies into something special; try layering it with your favorite fall vampy shades, or your other go-to nudes.
Last step: work it, sister!Confidence is everything.
