One of the trickiest things in makeup may be figuring out which blush to pair with which lip color. We’ve all heard the saying of choosing one feature to accentuate (normally meaning eyes or lips), but we think this relates to cheeks, as well. When you pop on a bold lipstick, it’s hard to also wear a bold cheek without looking overdone. However, you often want to pair your strong lip with a blush in that same color family to keep yourself from looking washed out. For us, red lipstick is the trickiest. Wearing a red blush would be absolutely too much, yet wearing something pink or berry-toned seems to clash. So, what do you pick?
After struggling (and we do use that word lightly) with this question every time we applied our trusty red lipstick, we finally found the perfect red lip blush. Created by our already beloved Tarte, this Amazonian Clay 12-Hour blush is one we’re more than familiar with (we’ve mentioned our love for the shade ‘Captivating’ just a few times). However, the shade ‘Exposed‘ is one that is truly magical. This color is matte but not flat, pigmented, long-lasting, AND the perfect red lipstick blush! It’s not too pink, too berry, or too red to look strange when paired with a bold lip. Instead, it gives a natural looking color to the cheek to make it look almost bronzed and tanned, rather than flushed. We think it works for any season and any bold lip, but especially love it in summer, paired with an orange-toned red, like this one from Rimmel.
So next time you go to apply your favorite red and realize you’ve got nothing for the cheeks, pop over to Sephora and give ‘Exposed‘ a go. We can’t recommend the pairing enough!
