As the holidays are fast approaching and many of us have an office holiday party looming, we thought we’d help you out by putting together a guide for an office party look that can be worn with any outfit and any hairstyle (how easy is that?!). One of our all-time favorite looks (that we can rarely pull off on our own) is the elusive smoky eye. We love a strong eye almost as much as we love a bold lip – and you know all about that. In particular, we wanted a smoky eye that could feel wearable enough for daytime so we wouldn’t have to do a full touch up come evening. While this may be too much on the eyes for everyday office wear, we love it for a special occasion, as you can barely tell you’re wearing anything on the eye unless it’s closed. Genius.
To start, we called in the pro: Bev Zychowski, one of our favorite stylists in Chicago who, you may remember, we’ve done a smoky eye with before (back in our baby days of blogging!). Bev asked what sort of direction we wanted to take the smoky eye in and, as with most things in our life, we decided to go gold. While Bev used Lorac’s Pro Palette, we’re partial to Marc Jacob’s new beaut (see below) for personal use/makeup hoarding. While she worked her magic, we daydreamed about the open bar.
Bev dusted on the prettiest shades of black and gray before going in with that warm gold we wanted and a stay-in-place liquid liner. We then added our favorite neutral lipstick, which just so happens to come in the best packaging (read: gold). Et voila! The completed look (minus hair and outfit change).
See? Barely anything with your eyes open! Magic, we tell you.
Now that is the drama we were looking for.
Now, behold the power of hair and fashion. We swapped the desperately unstyled hair for a loose low bun (about all we can do with the shorter ‘do) and opted for a warm black dress from Mango with a bit of lace at the bottom. Festive without being over the top. Letting the eyes do the talking – as our mouth is full of wine.
