The air on planes is notorious for drying our skin out. The longer the flight, the drier skin gets, and the more tired we appear. To help us look as excited as we are to travel on the outside as we are on the inside, here are some secret weapons to look and feel fresh on those long haul flights!
Makeup removing wipes: For any flight over four hours, we’re going to sleep. Ole Henriksen’s Grease Relief Cleansing Cloths help really clear out your skin, as they’re exfoliating on one side and soft on the other and are eucalyptus-scented and oil-free! We suggest using the wipes at the end of the flight as well to get whatever was floating around in the air out of your pores.
Lip balm/treatments: Just as the plane dries out the face, it dries out the lips too. One of our favorites is the Sugar Rose Lip Balm from Fresh. It is extremely moisturizing and has a slight tint to brighten up the lips for when you arrive at your destination. As an added bonus, you can also swipe the color on your cheeks for a bit of blush!
Sleeping masks: To really protect yourself from that recirculated, dry plane air, a sleeping mask is a must. Sephora sells single-use packs for $4. There is no need to fear the weird looks you can receive when putting a face mask on in public because these go on clear and don’t require any peeling or washing off. No one will even know you even have a face mask on! Lay the mask on thick, and as the flight goes on, it will sink into your skin. This will leave you with a bright, moisturized complexion, helping you not only look refreshed, but feel pampered too. Our favorites are the Rose and Lotus.
Brightening concealer: Sleeping on planes is hard. The person next to you will wake you up to go to the bathroom, flight attendants will run over your feet with refreshment carts, and inevitably, a baby will be crying. So you best believe a concealer for those under eyes is absolutely necessary. The Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch highlighting concealer gets the job done and it’s from the drugstore! We always have it in our carry on.
Highlighter: Highlighter can do so much. Before you get off the plane, put it in the inner corners of your eyes, on your cheekbones, and on the bridge of your nose! You’ll instantly look more awake and like you didn’t just step off of an eight hour flight. A classic that looks good on almost every skin tone is MAC’s Soft and Gentle.
Perfume: This might seem obvious, but a little scent goes a long way. Smelling good is an essential component to feeling fresh. A favorite of ours is Viva La Juicy, but you can easily purchase a perfume atomizer to store your favorite in a travel sized spray.
BONUS: This TSA approved makeup bag from Sephora. If you’re like us, you’ve always had trouble stuffing all of your liquid makeup products into little plastic baggies to carry on to a flight. We discovered this little makeup bag in line at the check out. Best of all, it’s actually free with the purchase of three travel-sized makeup products. It is perfect for carrying all your in-flight essentials!
