This fall, we’re all about small changes we can make to our routine that won’t impact us on time or effort. One of those changes has been quietly trending at drugstores for years – only to just now catch on in a more refined way with high-end.
We’re talking about colorful mascara. Not your average black, brown, or brown-black type of colorful, but true blues, purples, and greens. Benefit kicked off the trend with the launch of the color counterparts to their infamous ‘They’re Real‘ mascara. Not shortly after did Clinique follow suit with the introduction of a mascara to match their ‘Chubby’ products, going by the name of ‘Chubby Lash Fattening‘ mascara. With this launch, Clinique added a ‘Black Honey’ color to go with all of the well-loved ‘Black Honey’ products Clinique has become known for. For ‘Black Honey’ diehards, this addition was welcomed, yet met with skepticism. A deep purple mascara? How do you wear that?
We’ve surprisingly found the switch to be a simple one. Black Honey is such a universally flattering shade, that it truly works on all skin tones and eye colors. From afar, it’s dark enough to appear black, though the average mascara wearer would recognize that there is something slightly different there. The shade appears softer than a harsh black while finding a way to warm the complexion up without any additional eye makeup. Though we do have to admit, this is not a shade to wear with tired or teary eyes, as it will make your eyes look redder than they actually are. Besides that little qualm, we’ll gladly welcome Black Honey mascara into our routine.
